About the Atomic Backland 98

The Backland series from Atomic is their ski touring focused range, a collection of ultralight and sturdy skis specifically designed for endurance ski touring and mountaineering missions. The Backland 98 Women is a backcountry touring ski that floats in powder with ease but also maintains a lightweight chassis to scale epic climbs.

It features a Powder Rocker profile to offer great agility and floatation in backcountry conditions. Whilst the Dura Cap sidewalls help to control power transmission and provide excellent grip, the Backland 98W can hold its own on fresh groomers as well.

Even with a slimmer waist width than other touring/freeride setups, the Backland 98W can still hold its own in the deep stuff thanks to Atomic's HRZN Tech Tip. This adds 10% more surface area to the tip of the ski for better floatation and better tracking through chop/crud.

The construction of the ski consists of an ultra-light wood core that blends Poplar and Caruba wood to keep the weight low without compromising downhill performance. A Carbon Backbone is also added to boost torsional strength. This is a carbon insert that runs the length of the ski helping stability, strength, and agility.

Partner the Backland 98W with a set of touring bindings and skins then you've got yourself a set-up that is ready to take on any adventure in the backcountry.

Features Include
  • Ultra Light Woodcore - Poplar and Caruba woodcore to keep weight low for touring skis
  • Dura Cap Sidewall - Topsheet folds down over the edges to increase the durability of the edges
  • Powder Rocker 20/70/10 - Pronounced rocker in tip and tail with camber underfoot to offer great agility and flotation in all conditions.
  • Carbon Backbone - A carbon insert that runs the length of the ski to provide stability and strength without adding weight
  • HRZN Technology- Atomic's Horizon technology improves the skis ability to track through chopped snow and adds 10% surface area to increase float
  • Fiberglass- Fiberglass layers create a ski that is smooth and stable while remaining lightweight and dynamic
  • Directional Shape - Minimal tail rocker for more edge contact creating better grip and stability
  • Glossy Topsheet - Helps shed snow
