About the DPS Lotus 124 Foundation
The Lotus shape is DPS' most powder-focused design, with maximum performance for those dream days, with it's full wood Bamboo and Poplar core, one of the most noticeable characteristics of the Wailer 99 is it's stability.
These woods are sandwiched with triaxially braided fibreglass, which boosts the torsional stiffness of the ski and allow it to hold it's shape for a precise feel through the turn even at high speeds. Additionally, full length UHMW sidewalls and a camber profile through the majority of the ski act as suspension for a ski that can hold a firm edge even on icy terrain and add rebound for lively carving. Above and below the core, dual strips of uni directional carbon fiber add further dampening qualities that can keep you feeling confident even on the not-so-perfect days.
For the lucky days with fresh snow, rocker in the tip and tail lend the ski plenty of float, and allow for easy turn initiation and the ability to pivot easily. Furthermore, the progressive flex of the ski is softer towards the tip which not only allows the ski to be driven smoothly from the tip but helps with it's ability to plane up and surf across in deep snow, resulting in impressive powder performance for a ski of this width.
The tip shape includes a subtle taper. This is where the widest point of the ski is pushed further back from the tip, which reduces the effects of drag that would otherwise be caused by soft snow and prevent the ski from 'hooking'.
Overall, the 2019 Wailer 99 Foundation shines in it's versatility. It feels lightweight and nimble, and it's easy to drive the ski into a variety of turn shapes. However it's ample stability means it can also excel through long radius turns, high speeds and choppy terrain.
We recommend this ski to anyone who holds performance on early morning frosty groomers and the ability to float and slash through a couple of feet of fresh Alpine powder as equally important, and wants a premium construction ski that won't fault in either.
