About the Volkl BMT 90
The BMT 90 is part of Volkl's touring selection of skis and is designed to be lightweight to provide maximum effeciency ascending and descending the mountain.
At 90mm underfoot this isn't normally classed as powder ski width, but the lightweight construction and tip/tail rocker helps the BMT 90 glide over crud and variable soft snow conditions. However, having a thinner waist than the BMT 90 bigger brother it is extremely maneuverable with a super quick edge to edge speed
One of the first things you'll notice about the BMT 90 t is the strange 3D carbon ridge built into the top sheet. This 3D Ridge design has been filtered down the range from Volkl's incredibly high-end V-Werks skis. This tech mills out strategic areas of the skis top sheet to maintain a solid central platform with a lighter weight tip and tail section. This is a very effective construction on performance skis as it gives a precise flex pattern, less swing weight, increased float, reduced weight, and very accurate power transmission. One of the best things about this is that it helps the ski perform far better on hardpack than you would expect from a 90mm touring ski, while still maximizing floatation in powder.
The BMT 90 gets a host of Volkl tech to ensure maximum performance in deep powder. The tip and tail rocker profile and early tampered sidecuts help the ski effortlessly float in powder, whilst the camber underfoot keeps the ski lively and maneuverable. Features such as the Ice Off Topsheet, which reduces the attachment of snow by 20-30%, helps to reduce the weight of the ski when ascending or descending the backcountry. Furthermore, a multi-layer wood core which mixes Poplar and Beech to provide a solid and stable platform that grips and rides hard. A Carbon wrap around this core helps increase torsional rigidity without adding further weight.
The BMT 90 is designed as truly versatile all-mountain ski, its lightweight construction and shape allow it to perform just as well ascending the mountain as it does blasting down.
